External speakers for CB radios

An external speaker improves receive-audio clarity when a CB radio's built-in speaker is hidden by the dashboard or difficult to hear in a noisy cab. The currently offered PNI DE50 has a maximum power rating of 5W, 8Ω impedance, a 300–8500Hz frequency range, a 3.5mm plug and a 1.9m cable. Before ordering, check that the radio has a compatible external-speaker output, the correct connector diameter and matching impedance. Point the speaker towards the occupants, keep it away from airbags and moving parts, and route the cable so it cannot interfere with pedals or vehicle controls. An external speaker makes received audio easier to hear; it does not increase transmit power or radio range.
