Radio microphones replace the original handset or add further operating functions. The range includes conventional handheld microphones with PTT, models with channel selection and ASQ, VOX microphones for voice activation, speaker microphones and wireless Bluetooth kits. Products are available for CB radios and selected VHF/UHF transceivers from PNI and CRT. A matching connector shape alone does not guarantee compatibility: check the exact radio model, pinout and required supply voltage. Interfaces include 4-pin and 6-pin plugs, RJ11, RJ45 and two-pin connectors, which can use different wiring between manufacturers. Also consider cable length, microphone sensitivity, the presence of a speaker and the required control buttons. Before transmitting, set VOX sensitivity and audio levels so that background noise does not trigger transmission and speech remains clear.
Complete the communication setup with an external speaker, the correct connection cable or a headset with a compatible connector.
